Staneslas (Stan) (b. 1998) is a performance artist born and based in Kuwait. His work is based around exploring creative movement, the self, and understanding the motion of growth, dabbling in video, concept creation, and expressive movement.
Certified under the international council of Dance, Stan is a resident artist with the Loyac Academy of Performing Arts (LAPA) in Kuwait where he has grown throughout the years and has gained experience in the fields of direction, film, poetry and concept creation. Stan’s focus is to constantly change and experience new areas of art.
Stan was influenced by the strength of the artist support structures he witnessed whilst on the Making Marks trip in the UK. An encounter with a performance artist in Belfast was particularly impactful for Stan, who was inspired by her inclusive performances focused on promoting the voices of others. This is what Stan aims for with his work: to help others break barriers whilst collectively growing as artists and building up on each other.
Being a growing member in the artist community in Kuwait as a dancer/artist with LAPA his work explores different states of mind of an artist, as well as exploring himself. As part of the Making Marks journey, he stepped into new ground where his focus was to highlight the barriers one faces as an individual and as an artist. He blended aspects of the visual, movement, and poetry world to portray this. The resulting work, Armors (barrier), is a visual movement journey and a physical structure embodying the battle we have amongst our self.
Created in collaboration with Omar Nafisi, Hani Hamza, and Yash Soni.
